The first list below is organized by volume and issue, followed by name of the subject of the biography. The author of the biography is listed in square brackets,i.e., [author].

An alphabetical list follows.

There appear to have been four editors of the Biographies Department: Eric Weiss, J.A.N. Lee, Thomas Haigh, and Irina Nikiforova. (This information is being checked and will be corrected if appropriate.) In general, these editors have done massive amounts of writing of biographies, beyond serving in the editorial role. Wow!

Some of the biographies are labeled as obituaries, and this is noted on their entries below. In other cases, biographies were published near the time of deaths, but were not labeled as obituaries. In many cases obituaries in the Biographies Department are actually longish biographies. There are also some memoirs or histories of activities involving the author of the piece.

The information posted here is based on a spreadsheet of prior biographies Tom Haigh created when he became the department editor. Some of Tom's notes may need to be deleted or changed to better suit use on this web page(they were meant as only notes for him.

I have pulled out of the on-line PDFs in the Annals archive the information since Tom became editor with volume 24. More checking can be done over time.

Perhaps there have been biographies not in the Biographies Department, and these are not included unless they were in Tom's list.
