Edward A. Voorhees Jr

Los Alamos scientist who was a member of the team that developed the IBM STRETCH.

Education: BA, Maryville (Tenn.) College, 1947; MA, Vanderbilt University,1949.

Voorhees was an instructor in mathematics until 1952, when he joined the Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory as a staff member in the 701 Programming Section of Group T-1. In 1954 he became section leader and assistant group leader in T-1. From 1956 to 1961 he worked on the IBM-LASL, effort that produced the STRETCH (IBM-7030) computer. From 1966 to 1978 he was the laboratory's coordinator, ADP (CADP). He retired from LASL in 1982.
