James M. Sakoda

Developer of the "dynamic storage allocator" DYSTAL, based on the Fortran language.

Sakoda studied psychology at the University of California at Berkeley and received a PhD in 1949. From 1958 to 1962 he represented the University of Connecticut at the MIT Computation Center. From 1962 to 1981 he was professor in the Department of Sociology at Brown University; he is now professor emeritus. He was director of the Social Science Computer Laboratory from 1962 to 1975 and of the Social Science Data Center from 1975 to 1981. He was on the NIH Computer Advisory Committee from 1960 to 1965. Developer of the "dynamic storage allocator" DYSTAL, he has published works on DYSTAL and even one on origami.
